The UK has recorded the lowest number of deaths from coronavirus since the lockdown began. 77 people died in the most recently recorded 24 hour period. There were no deaths reported in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It takes the total recorded coronavirus death toll in the UK to 40,542.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has denied that lives were lost because the lockdown was brought in too late. He was responding to criticism from a senior scientist who advises the government.

Meanwhile new quarantine rules for passengers entering the UK are coming into force. Three airlines have begun a legal challenge to the restrictions, which will require most people arriving in the UK to self-isolate for 14 days.

Mishal Husain presents BBC News at Ten reports from Health Correspondent Dominic Hughes and Business Correspondent Katy Austin.

Guided by science? How come our science doesn’t match up to the rest of the world? More like picking science that suits what you want.

I live in Torquay. Torbay Hospital is literally at 0 current active cases, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter has 3 current active cases, and no one has died in Torbay for 3 weeks. And as far as I have heard, it is pretty much the same story across Devon. Someone please explain to me how this R number works?

The British government’s thought which may represent the British people’s in some extend is super strange. When most of the counties lockdown the cities or even the whole country, you say it will be ok. But locked later which costed so many lives and decided to do head immunity. When the pandemic is almost coming to the end, you started calling people to wear musk. When you are supposed to stop the airline operation at the very beginning of the pandemic, you did not, but start quarantine to the arrives now, not even forceable. What is the point? Why did you do everything in the opposite order?

“Guided by the science” Is far becoming an automatic response. It’s not fair on science.

asking questions to Matt Hancock wanting a straight answer is also draining my life
