People selling flood-damaged homes 'as-is' after Hurricane Milton

Among all the debris still left to pick up after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, “For Sale” signs are popping up across the Bay Area.

Owners are selling dozens of properties “as-is,” wanting cash offers with no contingencies. Some are facing a short sale if they’re underwater on the mortgage. It’s happening in every county where homes flooded, from Sarasota to Pasco counties, sometimes at prices far below what the owner paid for it.

Have to cut the walls out. This realtor is a crook if he's saying they don't have to remove the drywall. It's flood water with sewage mixed in. Not fresh water dried in a day

Corporations need to be banned from the housing market. That's one reason prices are through the roof.

Paying for a mortgage on a dead horse. A “dead horse” loan is when you owe payments on something that is completely unusable, destroyed or costs more to fix than it is worth. This is a nightmare for thousands of Floridians. At some point in time, the mansions by the sea will be mansions in the sea.

All of these homes have horrible mold that will not go away, its in the frame and foundation already, coastal homes have that problem anyway. Hope no one is stupid enough to buy these homes. They all will need to be torn down and a new home built but no guarantee that another hurricane next year wont take it out. I live about 2 hrs from FL for now 68 years in small town, wont say where we dont want the FL transplants moving out to come here, we deal with them coming through, rude, condescending behavior. We have seen these people come and go for decades and why and for that reason locals will never buy/build a home in FL or on any coast. The upkeep and maintenance is expensive enough, true of any coastal home on the beach or further in. We know better. Beaches in FL or Southern coasts, fine for visits but not to live.

My family left Florida for South Carolina 5 years ago, the exact house we sold was completed destroyed during last month hurricane. Feel sorry for the home owner, but there's a reason why we left

'Just a little bit of water, above the plugs, maybe 2 and half feet' says the realtor.

To of buyers, that's a 'never in a million years if you paid me' property. In Floriduh, it's 'normal'.

Yes, beautiful area with wonderful beaches and views. Some huge downsides! Insurance costs are and huge bugs.

It’s only a paradise if you’re a visitor.

Who is to say it won’t flood again in another hurricane? They will be lucky if they can give it away!

They need to make those areas RV friendly. That way if a storm comes they can just leave. Makes sense to me.

I it would have to be investors with deep pockets... there's no way you could get a mortgage if you can't get insurance. They would probably have to buy the entire area. Think about it who would want to live in an area where every other house looks like a war zone.

New buyers can see what they can expect from the next hurricane.

Slice of paradise? More like homeowner hell, living in Florida. The smart people are leaving while they still can sell their homes. The smarter people left before this year’s weather disaster. The SMARTEST people never moved to Florida.
