The UK and US have one of the longest standing relationships between nations. They work together on trade, military operations and intelligence sharing. But how close are the two countries, and how much do they rely on each other?

The UK and USA do not always see eye to eye, but what makes the relationship genuinely special is that they almost always share the same geopolitical interests. It's a win-win relationship. It's extremely convenient for the UK to have an English speaking democracy dominate the global economy and global order. And it's also convenient for the United States to have an English speaking democratic island off the coast of continental Europe, which 9 times out of 10 has the same interests as the Americans.

The US respects France and likes countries like Poland, Italy and Spain but the UK is no fairweather friend. In a way I think the United States may actually take that for granted.

As a Brit I'd much rather see a global order dominated by the United States than China. Infact this century it's absolutely imperative that this is the case. The US should enable CANZUK to be pursued to strengthen the Anglosphere even if just by a little, as well as discourage Europe from confederating into a superstate. A federal Europe dominated by Germany that is anti-NATO and dependent on Russian energy is an absolute tragedy waiting to happen. But that's another discussion altogether

From the American side, the "Special Relationship" is like a marriage. An inbreed marriage I suppose. At times, like Reagan-Thatcher, it's unstoppable. At other times, it's just a title. It ebbs and flows Each side has their own relationships with other countries that are special. But you can't tell me that they could sit in the same briefing room and have the same rapport, mindset, values, and compensation that comes with comradery that the Americans and the Brits had. We won WWII and allayed the Cold War for decades from nuclear Armageddon. I understand sensaltionlism in media, but give credit where it's due. We're stuck together for awhile, whether we like it or not.

Yeah I don't think the Special Relationship is ending any time soon, but it's a bit of a low point

As an American, I’ve always viewed the UK as our parent. I really respect them and I think of them as one of our closest allies.

Even though the focus on the Special Relationship is often on military and economic ties, I think it is really entrenched through cultural ties. It's not just linguistic, but in the almost weekly collaborations that are released between British and American artists in the charts, or the constant featuring of UK actors in US films or US films set in the UK. Soft power in the world is dominated by products of the US/UK, often jointly - and that's been the case since the emergence of pop music out of both countries in the post war period. Since The Beatles and Elvis, both countries have had unstoppable music markets. It's so integrated now that many people don't even know which artists/bands are American and which are British.

As an American, I've always felt we like the UK more than they like us.

It hurt my OCD that the UK was pictured on the left and the US on the right.

Funny thing is that up until ww1 there really wasn't such a relationship. Britain was doing it glorious isolation stick while the US had an eternal alliance with France (because french soldiers helped them during the war of independence). Up until Teddy Roosevelt the British and the americans saw each other more along the lines of rivals.

US/UK bond is a strong as ever. There was just a minor glitch when May was calling the shots.

Lol, I was on the bus in ROI and on the radio they talked about their special relationship with the US, and when I was in Spain, I heard about the Spanish special relationship with the US. Seems like there are a lot of these special relationships.

This video needs updating but besides that on the express website hints of a $20 trillion trade deal are made dated after the making of this video?
