The second one is by far the easiest and quickest to learn. You maintain contact with the stick at all times and run much lower risk of dropping it. Mick Tucker, the drummer for Sweet was a master of that technique in the 70's and 80's.

Thanks dude! Thanks to your explanation I made it to spin quite good in less than two days. As I started some 30 years ago I thought I never could spin sticks.

Something that helped me immensely was spinning the opposite direction first.
Just came much more natural.
Once you get the rhythm down, the other direction was then easier.
Also, minimizing the wrist movement helps once you get the hang of it, though it's still using some
