Trying E85 in my F-150

I have been curious to see what the differences would be if I ran E-85 in my 2016 F-150 5.0. SO I ran 3 tanks through it and here is my conclusion.

if i’m going to tow the flat deck or travel trailer i make sure to fill up on e85, i get a noticeable difference for sure, it eats more fuel but it’s also 2$ a gallon cheaper here. For me it’s pretty much a break even thing for more power/torque, really noticeable on long hauls uphill through mountain ranges in BC and Washington.

I run E-85 every now and then in my 5.0L F-150, Its fine for what it is, the truck feels slightly peppier than on 93 octane (Stock tune) as I don't have a tuner on it, and its nice that E-85 is usually priced slightly cheaper than regular unleaded. However, my mileage does suffer greatly on E-85. If I am VERY careful and mindful of my gas mileage I can average right around 13mpg in mixed city/high driving, down from around 17mpg on 93 octane. With a performance tuner E-85 would probably make more sense, I've heard you can gain upward of 60whp with E-85 on an E-85 tune alone, but on a stock tune the difference, while still there is more negligible.

I have a 2010 F-150 XLT and I run E85 in my truck because its currently about 1.20 per gallon cheaper than regular gasoline. Only bad part is down here in the sticks there is only one gas station reasonably close to me (Casey's) which sells it. So now Casey's gets 100% of my fuel business. Though at least they have a fairly decent rewards system.

In my Grand Caravan, I get about 21-22 with e85 and 24-25 with normal gasoline.

It also depends on the gas station you’re getting the E85 from. Meijer is a ripoff, and you are guaranteed to lose money. In Grand Rapids, J&H Family Stores or other smaller family business stations will E85 cheaper than what Meijer will.

I think this was a great video, I haven’t tried it in my own F150 and not sure if I could with my brand new 23 2.7 F150 Ecoboost, no flex fuel markings on the out side. Did try it with my Company Van a Dodge Caravan and it was like I lost from like 21 mpg down to around 15, I think it had a lil more pep with the E85, but then again I might have pushed it a lil harder. Our local Sheetz has it and one of the Managers told me they didn’t really sell very much of it and the price difference here in West Virginia didn’t seem like it overcame the the mileage loss.

I run corn ONLY because it’s $1.50 a gallon cheaper a gallon than 85 here. Ford only recommends 1 tank of 85 between oil changes for some reason so I obliged since my only issue so far is transmission issues in my 2013. For the miles I do, with my load, I profit over 85. Just my 2 cents

On the 11-14 5.0, running e85 alone would net you a 15 hp and 10lb of torque.

621 DTE on straight 91 Octane. No Etoh. Personally tested before filling up the 3.5 Ecoboost

E85 is for more performance and better for the environment, not fuel economy.

E85-14miles a gallon....Regula87-17 miles a gallon

Were you running a custom tune? There's tremendous horsepower gains in e85 with a tune. Especially if you run EcoBoost engines. I'd rather be pushed back in my seat than worry about a few miles per gallon but that's just me

Been interesting if you would have said what your "normal" MPG is using gas. Then we could compare MPG difference. I don't find the computer vs your math to be that big of a difference to be honest. Thanks for the video.
