I think he also understood who he was also, and put the mask on to confirm him becoming one with his other identity. While at the same time I do believe he was still afraid of this fact, so it did represent the fear he had with the new life ahead of him. This movie is so deep! I’m rewatching it now 🙂

I think Red told him. Maybe he didn't believe at first, but the animalistic scream scenes were just the moment he knew something was totally wrong with the mom he thought he knew

Wait if the Addy that we thought was a doppelgänger was actually human, then why was she giving her actual doppelgänger a whole history lesson on what the Tethered are when they confronted each other in the classroom? Wouldn’t they both already know?

Why is Jason and Adelaide the closest in the family? It really just seems like the daughter and Husband were just 2nd rate in this movie. It's strange to me.

He showed signs of tethered early on with his demeanor and understanding of the doppelgängers like his mom. I think mom knew as well which is why she was trying to prove it was her after she opened the locker but it should have gone without saying being she could talk, show emotion, and wasn’t in a jumpsuit. But I also theorized red gave him the 1 2 otw to the locker

People have theorized that Jason was switched too

Jason was originally a tethered. Zora states her brother went missing after he got stuck in the closet of the family's holiday home the previous year we assume or a few years before. Pluto, Jason's doppelgänger, could've switched places with him during that absence, and the longer time period could give the Tethered boy long enough to learn how to properly speak.
Meanwhile, this could explain why Pluto scampers around on all fours like a toddler, and also why "Jason" is so withdrawn, preferring to play in the darkness of the closet than with his sister. There are also a few other things to consider.

The end of the movie is good because wen his mom was young her doppelgänger took her place already before she grew so the real one had been in the other side whiles the fake one had a family and children so in the end, the real one switched back and that’s wat the boy realised

Also notice how when Jason had the other Jason back into the fire. She was saying no confirming that was her actual son.
