What went wrong is, it came from Siberia. Yeah, live in a place like that enough generations and you'll be eating the pinecones too. Jokes aside, the cones are still very young when they're picked, and not woody at all- they only turn brown once they've oxidized for a while. Never tried it myself, but in general if you hear of a weird preserve, it's probably Russian. We also pickle fruits excessively. Apples, most often, but I've heard of such a horror as pickled watermelon... well, it is in the same family as the cucumber, I guess.

I've never had the jam, but i do make tea with the needles. An if you're wondering, it does not taste like floor cleaner. The tea smells like pine obviously, but the taste is citrusy from the high amount of vitamin C
