Excel Charts - Timeline with Milestones

if you have to schedule tasks and milestones on horizontal axis, and it's a recurring task - why not make easier by creating a template on Excel, where you simply plug in updated data and let the charting engine take care of the work?

Timeline chart shows the chronological sequence of past or future events on a timescale. It is mainly used in project management for showing milestones, deadlines and other significant dates and events of a project. Apart from project management timeline chart can also be used to illustrate the chronology of key events and developments.

Note: I have used MS Excel 2016 version to make this chart, other versions might have slight differences.

When I add the chart, I do not get the plus sign to the right of the chart. Can you tell me how to add this or is there a work around from the drop down menus.

My timeline keeps adding in random dates in the timeline. There is no milestone or data at all attached to them.
