CEEN 641 - Lecture 15 - Clay Sensitivity and Anisotropy

Показать описание
This lecture covers two separate but related topics: sensitivity of clay soils, and anisotropy in shear strength in fine-grained soils. The lesson defines sensitivity, and explains how extra sensitive (or quick) clays form. The lesson also discusses how the orientation of the loading in clays can impact the strength that you measure from that clay (i.e., anisotropy).

In Scandinavia we have clays with sensitivity over 500. Su might be over 50 kPa, and the remoulded strength is lower than 0.1 kPa. 0.1 is the lowest possible measurement, but the strengths might be lower.
