Man of little stature but had the voice of a mountain. Never got to see him. Huge regret. He was getting treatment here in Houston. There was a guy getting treatment for cancer at the same place and was a huge fan. Ronnie would bring him gym bags full of stuff. The staff said he was one of the most positive kind people they'd ever met. RIP RJD.

Holy crap! RJD and my mother were only weeks apart in age and both grew up in Portsmouth. They may have known one another. Sadly, no way to ask.

I saw him in 81 or 82. One of the monitor speakers caught a pyrotechnic spark and smoldered into a flame. Two roadies came out beat the flames out with a couple of towels and had it replace by the end of the song. Dio just watched them work and laughted it off.

I was at his solo tour concert in San Diego in 82'. It was my first time attending such a concert. There was an amazing laser show along with Dios music.
42 years ago and I recall it well.
Weird that a garden Elf caused the loss of his thumb as, don't take this wrong, he reminded me of an Elf straight out of the ferrie realm.
It was magical.
