How to tile a niche. In this video I go through the steps I took to install the tile in the back of a niche of a shower stall in a master bathroom. The recessed niche has a hexagonal mosaic tile to match the floor tile. The shower was constructed using Schluter Systems Kerdi-Board and relevant components of that system. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. Neat trick. I really like this installation. I hope you're going to feature it on an upcoming episode. I especially like the shelf on the back wall at the same height as the pony wall, allowing a niche above the seat. Great idea!

Hey Sal love the content. I've done this before on the same senerio and a stripe with penny rounds th flush out the dept difference and questioned my self. On it, being I've never seen anybody do it other than 1 other guy i saw it from and you showing how you do yours the same way helps me and gives me confidence in this trick of the trade. Theres the book and there ingenious ingenuity. IQ 1000

hi sal. i like this idea, specially the tile trim i will be using is much thinner the the wall tiles. so what size of trowel should i use to install the kerdi board in this application against the kerdi wall ?

QUESTION: They say you must use an unmodified thinset to apply Kerdi membrane on shower walls, but the Schluter All-set thinset bag states it's a modified thinset. And Schluter All-set is used to apply the Kerdi membrane???

Sal can you please elaborate on how you did this?
Did you thinset the back of the Kerdi board onto the kerdi board that was in the niche(double layer)?

I've watched a ton of your videos and enjoyed very much. I noticed when caulking a corner you will spray the caulk before removing the extra caulk with your tool. You use to use denatured alcohol but now you are using a product called SILICONE FINISHING Spray which I can not find. Can I use soap and water or denature alcohol? Thoughts?
