I scored a volvo 244 for 500 bucks that was in a no start condition. All it needed was a new ignition control unit but because of the "1984 specific" parts, the new unit was going to probably run me another 300 dollars just for that one specific part. After looking around online, I found some old guy on craigslist who had hundreds of volvo 240 parts laying around for sale. I called him up and he told me he had the part and sold it to me for only 30 dollars. 10/10 good car.

Great review! I have 15 old Volvo's, including every model that Volvo released in the US from the PV544 to the 940. I've always had the same problem putting my finger on exactly what it is that makes me love them so much, but they're addictive and intoxicating. I have other old cars too but way more Volvo's than anything. Also, major props to the person who chose to repair that car after the wreck. Most people wouldn't, but more people should. It's not that hard, and they don't make these anymore.

Damn, love this car. Shoutout to Diego for fixing it and sticking with it after that nasty front end collision. As much as I love my 240 wagon, I don’t know if I would’ve even tried to fix it had it happened to me. Props to him.

Regarding the OD button on the shifter, it is ironic that the light comes on when the MANUAL transmission goes into OD (5th gear) and that the light in the AUTOMATIC transmission models goes on when the 4-speed (4th is OD) is disabled. This feature in the AUTOMATIC models is common in more modern cars. Still, you should be familiar with either system before you drive them. I have the AUTOMATIC AW70 transmission in my 1986 Volvo DL and I only use OD when I drive on the interstate - otherwise, it feels anemic when lugging the engine on secondary roads.

Glad to know you love the volvo's. I have a 1985 244 Volvo DL. Love my car and would never, NEVER let Violet go!!! lol
You forgot to mention, when you pulled out the foam arm rest in the back of the volvo seats? If you go into the trunk, there's a flap that you pull up and there, there's a hole you can put your ski's through the car into the back seat. I used mine for 2x4's when i needed to go to Home Depot, lol Really nice to have.

these cars have a well kept secret, they are fun to drive, they are very easy to diagnostic and to work on and...they are indestructibles, I can't say that from the FWD Volvos : I simply hate them.
