Next to the whole "entire game is fake thing", I think "toad puts a star above your head but it's a thwomp" might be my single favourite bit in ANY romhack

In retrospect, you can sort of kind of subtly tell that the 3D wonderland level was created for the troll, since there is just such a high density of objects and setpieces visible from the starting point. It feels like a painting. Every point of interest is kind of projecting itself to you as you enter the stage. A real level probably would have not had this kind of layout.

But again, that's in retrospect. I never would have seen it coming in a million years

Super Duper Mario 3D Wonderland is like a screenshot you would see in a magazine of an "upcoming game" that got cancelled that you never heard about again, or an early unfinished prototype that somehow leaks online. You just have ideas about what the game is like and imagine playing it, but it's never actually real or finished or realized. I hope the person who made it considers making a full game or at least a fully developed course, the visual design and art style of that little section is out of control.

SM64 devs didn't make pipes octagonal prisms as a stylistic choice, sometimes you just have to compromise good looks for playability

the setup of a huge, beautiful level that you can't explore is something i'd expect to see in some arthouse thing trying to be thought-provoking. and if it was, i'd probably scoff at it. but the fact that it's just a big prank makes me more willing to really think about it and the way i reacted to it. anything really can happen in a roll hack...

Super Duper Mario 3D Wonderland Extreme was by far my favorite of the whole comp. I felt such immense excitement from the first second of Simple entering the stage...that troll hit me on a far deeper, intimate way. This was an attack not just on streamer, but on the helpless viewers at home -- nay, the WORLD.

Superstupidy betrayed my trust when I wanted and needed it most. Had to vote a 10

I really hope Press A to Jump evolves into a full hack. I love that concept, it feels a little like Baba is you, hopefully it can evolve to having different actions assigning to multiple buttons at once. It'd be a really fun puzzle game.

I feel like weve all made a joke about a hack where there is no game like "aw imagine a troll hack that looks actually insane right, like thwy have this super intricate design and a world that looks huge and it looks gorgeous but the game just doesnt let you play it and thats the entire troll"

But i dont think any of us expected a hack TO ACTUALLY DO IT AND JUST MAKE A HACK WITH NO HACK IN IT

Wonderland reminds me of the ending sequence of Inscrpytion, where it shows you fully modeled features and game modes and you have no hope of playing them. Strikes the same painful niche.
