If you've seen some of the original footage of the roof cleanup, this scene is just haunting. The directors and set designers clearly reviewed that footage closely before filming this scene.

This is the scariest scene i've ever seen, can't stop watching it....

This is the real horror movie with a silent killer you can't see, radiation. 600, 000 soldiers and liquidators had to clean up and the build that sarcophagus to contain all that radiation. The new sarcophagus didn't even get finished until last year. The sad thing a lot of those will get cancer or fighting cancer right now from what they did to protect us all.

They went up on that roof way too early. After a short wait of just 11.640 years, the Carbon-14 in the graphite blocks has decayed away completely and they can pick them all up by bare hands. No need to hurry or to throw them back down into that reactor anymore either. Instead they could make plenty of pencils out of them.... Just sayin. ;-)
