I really feel like this is a misunderstood topic. The current process ensures return on investment for the employer. They're more likely to miss out on good candidates, but they're less likely to hire bad candidates. Since it's more expensive to make up for a bad hire, it's worth it for companies to keep the current process. Also, you will run into scenarios on the job where DSA knowledge will come into play. Maybe not if all you're doing is front end JS. But outside of that, DSA knowledge will only help you to be a better engineer.

As uncle Stef says algo stuff is "only in a need-to-nerd basis".

Once I applied for a backend Node.js job and the first thing after hello in the interview was live coding challenge
not even taking the time to introduce themselves and the disaster was the problem I was asked to solve was a frontend one!!!
I was like I applied for backend why am I being tested for frontend?
the answer was we test everyone with basic stuff so we know they are good at coding
long story short I didn't do the challenge and didn't join the company

Currently working on my BS in CS. My main question is, why haven't companies started revamping their interview process? Does the current process work well enough to the point that the resources spent to create an adaptable interview template isn't worth it? I just don't see how anyone can view the current interview trend positively.

I can program in Visual Basic, VBScript, JavaScript, HTML, BASIC, and SQL.

I can merge/purge files, set up email campaigns, track open and clicks, convert PDF and DOCX to HTML for email, and write custom programs.

Where should I look for more work?

These tests are basically IQ tests (with some prerequisite coding knowledge assumed) because hiring bright people is generally better than hiring someone who has learned some stuff over a long period of time but can't adapt it to novel situations. In most dev jobs you won't need to do a binary tree search, but if you can do it off the cuff, then it means you're likely pretty smart.

As much as I can understand coding gamrs, I'm against them for multiple reasons.
First off the job itself : noone will parachute a newcomer in the middle of the battlefield alone. It's a team play to go through projects. If you're not team player you can't be part of the game and coding game alone is nonsense imo for this.
OTOH a screening exercise with the presence of anyone technical from the team is a good thing.
Second thing is that someone of 24 doesn't have the same amount of time in his life that someone of 40 but the puzzle is the same for both anf that's not fair.

Aside from my current job, every interview I ever had for a Frontend Engineer position was full of nonsensical bullshit that was so abstract that it did not reflect in any way the skillet actually required to perform in the role they were hiring for
