Today I am sewing a 1950s pinafore with a detachable bib out of some beautiful striped cotton fabric. I'll also sew a 1940s blouse that features shirring in the front and buttons down the back. The pinafore was a mix of Advance 8053 and Simplicity 4685 and then the blouse was advance 5253.

The cost breakdown is probably my favourite segment of your videos. I think it's a really unique part of your content and it provides a good look into the realities of creation in current society. I love the things you make but I also love the more nuanced discussion about labour, particularly traditionally women's labour, and the value associated with it. Just wanted to add a positive view on the cost segment. Keep doing what you're doing (as long as it is serving you too), it is making a difference!

So sorry you are getting so many negative comments. I guess there are a lot of unhappy people on the internet who need to share their misery and make others unhappy too. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to them every week. I've been sewing for years but I've still learned a thing or two from your videos, and I love your travel vlogs and hauls, too.

People were complaining about the cost breakdown? I always thought that was great idea. Personal belief is "Unless you have years of experience and gifted all your fabric, sewing isn't cheap."

I don't know if it helps, but I was one of those people that didn't think at all about buying fast fashion. The "I hate myself, let's go shopping to feel better" types. I decided to sew again after several years break and found Stephanie, and you, and several others. Your videos really opened my eyes to how much of a consumer culture we have, and I really consider what I'm spending my money on now. I buy deadstock fabric, and attempt to thrift what I can (being a larger size means there is much less available.) In the last 3 months, the only clothing related item I bought new was some stretch to make my son a jacket (pleasing a 3 year old who demands dinosaurs is difficult), and I'm pretty proud of that.

I personally love your rants about garment workers. I find myself nodding and verbally agreeing with you as you speak. ❤

Leena Norms has a great video on creating a wardrobe for a changing body. I highly recommended it.

Also I love your channel just the way it is.

I don't know why people are upset about your cost breakdowns. You are providing information, not demanding that people do exactly as you do.

Your rant is exactly the balm I needed today. There's so much apathy and ignorance of the cruelty in the world and it's really refreshing to feel validated with the shared outlook. I'm glad there's a bunch of fellow viewers who also are on the same page with you, it's really heartening that you've cultivated a caring community!

*snaps*snaps*snaps all around* YES!!!! Well said. It sucks being angry, but miss ma'am you do it SO WELL and your cost breakdowns are my favourite part of your videos (well and the sewing... so I guess all of it). So happy to know you exist within the world of sewing/making <3

I really enjoy your sewing videos, and the time and cost breakdown at the end. Keep it up! Your content is encouraging my interest in sewing clothing. I used to sew a lot, but haven't for years. I don't think I've heard your voice, as I always watch every video muted, but I will turn the sound on (briefly) for the next one. And I love, love, love your hair--different every time, just as it should be. I just got called a dummy yesterday in another group after I asked a question about the source of the information in their post, and you're so right, it's really not worth my time and my rise in blood pressure to respond. Thanks!

Haley Marie! Do not miss Nicole Rudolf's amazing Youtube video on the history of rainbow fashions. It made me think of your sparkly dress from last year!

I'm not a fan of the cost breakdown myself. Not because I'm okay with the system I absolutely 1000% agreee with everything you said. I'm on YouTube to see creativity & happiness but I'm never going to ask you to change your content. It is meaningful for you to use this platform to call attention to the problem. Even if you only reach one person to open their eyes it's worth it.

Well said Haley! We need to be more aware of current working class problems, specially with the future we seem to be walking to with virtually no complains from most people, dont stop talking about these important issues👏🏻

The outfit looks great. I like the way the stripes on grain on one side an on bias on the other side looks sassy and cute. The darts on the pinafore make it fit just right. And I really like the way the straps turned out on that stripe.
"There is no reason for poverty." Amen sister!
Block the haters. Never apologize for being angry. Thanks for the rant. You are doing good. Especially on the sewing. I consider myself a "core viewer." So, rant away.

THANK YOU for taking the time and energy to talk about garment workers, a living wage, etc. While I've been into thrifting and sewing for years you have inspired me to be even more thoughtful about any fast fashion purchases. Thanks for sharing your makes and it's always fun to see <3

Great way to remove ink from your clothing is using alcohol/hand sanitizer, be careful on acetate and silks. It may need a couple rounds, but I put a drop on a spot, let it soak/rub, then put another drop on. Keep an eye and it will move! The fresher the better. Even works on sharpie!

Learned this from my handyman other half :)

I am HERE for your breakdowns! And your rants. The diagonal stripe on that skirt section was COOL! I may have to try it sometime.

Hi Haley; I am so sorry that you are going through that, it is very courageous to be 'out there' on social media and it certainly affects the ability to set up personal boundaries. Your cost breakdown analyses are actually what got me hooked on your channel. You have wisdom and depth of understanding beyond your years. I do appreciate your advocacy of people who are financially struggling and who are being taken advantage of. I grew up on the poverty line to a single parent and we would bring moldy sandwiches for lunch and I would have to share wearing my twin brother's clothes (as girls' clothes would cost too much). I needed to work starting when I was ten years old and up to my mid twenties would work anywhere between two to three jobs just to get by. I was lucky enough to get into university and now make a living wage but I do not forget about the people who continue to struggle financially and always are aware to help or assist in anyway that I can. Keep on doing what makes you feel happy and know that there are people out there you are supporting you and your channel. P.S. Spooky is a sweetheart.
