Apollo 11 - 50 Years - Epic Hans Zimmer | Interstellar Theme

On July 20, 1969 the 'race to the moon' was realized by the US Apollo space program. Inspired by the unique score Hans Zimmer created for 'Interstellar' - I recorded an arrangement of that main theme to accompany a 'visual retelling' of this historic achievement 50 years ago. @HansZimmer

Whenever I hear the interstellar main theme, I imagined myself standing in front of a Saturn V rocket and absolutely taken aback by how massive it is. It's an absolute beast of a rocket that will never be replicated.

Imagine being born in the very late 1800s or early 1900s. Those people were alive to see the invention of flight AND see the Moon landing in their lives. <3

Apollo was a perfect storm. Four things lined up to make it happen.

1. The Soviets bested us at the beginning, awakening America's spirt to beat them.
2. We had a huge Aerospace industry and infastructure from WWII and the start of the Cold War.
3. We got a hold of the German rocket scientists, not the Soviets.
4. We had a charismatic President that understood the stakes, established the vision, and eloquently spelled it out.

Remove any of the above four point, and Apollo 11 does not happen in 1969.

Apollo 11 was only the third manned flight to the Moon. Ever. Apollo 8 was the very first and didn't even carry a lunar module. They just beat the Soviets to the Lunar environment, circled around it 10 times and came back home. Apollo 10 tested the Lunar Module in the Lunar environment and did everything to prepare for the landing without committing to the final descent. Apollo 11 was the first attempt to land a man on the Moon, and Armstrong took control on the final descent to avoid boulders and hazards. It was the greatest accomplishment in the history of mankind. A human being touched another world. And it paved the way for the 6 missions which followed over the next 2 years.
