Description:
It is Winter NAMM 2020 - the big show where everyone releases all of their biggest items for the year! In this episode, we take a look and explain the most important things that Gibson and Epiphone brought to the table this year.

The new Gibson offerings were a bit bare to say the least. The new 70s Flying Vs and Explorers are very 70s in specs - but will make KK Downing and James Hetfield fans very excited! Gibson launched a new line up of Original Collection acoustics! I don't cover acoustics much, but the new pre-war SJ-200 is looking great! The new Single Cut Les Paul Special Tributes aren't as good of a deal as the Guitar Center exclusive specials - but a fun new way to get a maple neck on a les paul. They even brought ol' Dream Weaver aka "Spider L5" out for some fun and some cool aged flying V in a 50s style. The wrap things up - the 60th anniversary 1960 R0 Les Pauls are now here in 3 different versions.

Epiphone is what really stole the show this time. First off, they redesigned the Epiphone Headstock to the old Kalamazoo styled one. They launched a new "inspired by Gibson" series that directly mimics Gibson's Original and Modern collection, but a a fifth of the price! Epiphone also released a cool PURPLE Les Paul Classic and a New Epiphone Muse series of SGs and LPs with metallic finishes. The wrap things up - there will be an all American USA built Epiphone Acoustic Texan as well as a USA Epiphone Casino built this year!

Overall, not as big of a NAMM for Gibson as last year - but a big year for Epiphone! I look forward to reviewing some of these new models!

Corrections: The Epiphone Modern LP does have the sculpted heel joints. Gibson/Epiphone did a limited Run USA Texan in 2005 as a John Lennon Signature. Gibson is meaning this is the first non-limited edition, production run of USA Epiphones that are here to stay.
It was definitely time for Epiphone to shine this year! Gibson did a few cools things as well. Which one is your favorite?

Depending on the quality of those Epiphones, we might see "inspired by Epiphone" in the Gibson lineup 2025.

Another year another line of flying v's and explorers left in the dirt. I just don't understand why they don't have fun with them, put binding on, make some with block inlays, have funky colours like on the rest of the line. I think my favourite v's are the 84 and 85 lineups, with purple and greenburst, simply because they were having fun with them.

Can’t believe that I’m saying this but I’m looking forward to seeing what the quality is on the Epiphone lineup.

I'm loving the new head stock design. USA made Epiphone Casino? I'm seeing a few new Epiphones in my near future.

Looks like I'm going to be adding one of those new Epiphone Les Paul's to my collection. Never thought I'd be saying that but I'm a huge fan of the change in headstock.

Epiphone has really come up in the last decade. I have 4 electrics (Johnny A, Amos V, SG Les Paul Custom and a Casino) as well as a EL-00. All play great and sound fantastic with excellent craftsmanship.

The explorer is totally wrong for a 70’s model too. They got the body dimensions wrong, they’re using the modern day explorer shape which is a lot pointer, and the pickguard is wrong too.

The pelham blue SG had me GAS-ing a little, then the purple burst appeared. WOW. The goddess les pal is something I’ve wanted for ages, but will never suit a student budget, but this lil dude might just scratch that itch.

I just went on Gibson's website - the Modern series of Epiphone DOES have the access heel-joint! :)

The Epiphone SG with the Vibrola... I've been wanting a guitar that looks like that since I was a little kid. Definitely going to have to message you about that Trogly!

That Epi headstock is FIRE!! Awesome twist to the Epiphone line, very pleased. From the Gibson side, the Tony Iommi SG looks amazing.

I've kinda wanted an SG but that muse series looks interesting, really digging the green and purple a lot.

When I visited the Bozeman factory, I fell in love with the SJ-200 Western Classic. What a gem. The guitars coming from Montana are simply amazing...

That Highlights logo font, my friends dad designed that. They had a life time subscription to Highlights because of it. They just never stop coming for decades now.

I still can’t believe how cheap I got my Gibson SG special. Yea it has PCP pots but what the heck for $400 flat brand new at Sam Ash with those Mini humbuckers...can’t beat that....Epiphone or Gibson need to consider using those mini hum-buckers again they are incredible
