Thank you for such deep info. I am battling now with my poodle, with yeast infection & ringworm after twice anal gland raptured in April & May. So glad to know what to feed when i had to inform vet i am not feeding prescription diet as i see nothing but junk in there. Of course, i couldnt tell her that directly, but offer my stand in the end that, i will do as usual, homecooked food but have a novel protien. As i am so new tp these dog's allergies, keep your informative video rolling for i am sure to look out for them.

Could you please clarify what you mean by “tincture”? Are you referring to a glycerite (vegetable glycerin-based), oil-based, or alcohol-based extraction? As an herbalist, I’ve noticed that many people refer to anything in a dropper bottle as a tincture, even when it’s an oil-based extraction, a vinegar-based acetum, or a glycerite.

A true tincture is made by macerating plant material in alcohol for extraction. From my understanding, alcohol is toxic to cats, which is why this distinction is so important. The last thing we want is for someone to purchase a nettle or chamomile tincture assuming it’s safe for their cat, without realizing it contains alcohol. Unfortunately, many people don’t read ingredient labels carefully.

This is a major concern for those of us aware of the risks. I’m not sure about dogs, as I don’t have any, but for cats, it’s critical to be clear. This is something I see far too often—people buying human-formulated tinctures without considering the ingredients. Clarity on this matter is essential to prevent accidental harm. Thank you.

My cat had a chronic nasal infection for at least eight years. I took her to the vet and they thought it was allergies. I tried changing her litter changing her food I even had the carpeting ripped out and had a hard wood surface put in. She was on multiple rounds of antibiotics which would work but it would always come back in about three weeks. I finally found a supplement called Vira ex from feline essentials and it did the trick. Her nasal infection has pretty much cleared up. 🎉

One shot of Cytopoint that my holistic vet give my poor girl without my consent almost killed her! she went through a month of hell! Thank God she survive! other dogs are not so lucky!

Hi Dr. Katie! If I believe my cats itchiness is related to environment (dust mites, pollen, etc), will adding these food/supplement/herb suggestions help alleviate symptoms? Or is reducing and mitigating exposure to these environmental elements the best approach to reduce itchiness? I wasn’t sure if these suggestions were related to diet allergies, I have completed the food allergy test you suggested and removed those ingredients and have her on a freeze dried and wet food diet so I feel like I am at a good place with her on the diet side so I’m now exploring the environmental side
