America is just weird.
Just pay them for their work.

sometimes this tip culture feels like bribery and/or feels sympathetic.

Tipping is not done in anywhere besides America. It's unusual and just straight up weird or sketchy.
Also USA, pay your employees

I genuinely dislike that my job makes us ask for tips when we’re ringing up a customer. I don’t personally tip unless I’m at a restaurant, so it just makes me uncomfortable.

Tipping in japan is like saying, you're poor as hec

Tipping isn't as common outside of the US, because our workers are actually properly paid.

My grandfather went to Osaka in the 70s. After having lunch in some restaurant, he left a tip.

When he went back to his hotel that night, the reception handed him an envelope which contained the tip he had left at the restaurant. The restaurant staff somehow tracked him down and gave back the tip.

It used to be offensive in America. It was seen as bribery for better service etc. but then with the Great Depression employers figured tipping was a great to way cut business costs and so they marketed tipping as a good thing and even after the Great Depression they’ve been able to make it apart of American culture. So really y’all need to change that otherwise your paying tons of extra money for someone to survive when it should be the companies Job not the customers

She actually looks offended and that is the testament to the fact that she has enough integrity. I am not saying that people who receive tips do not have integrity, they do but only if the customer is genuinely doing it out of the goodness of their own heart and not because it's mandatory or you're guilt tripping them. In my country (Pakistan), we tip in the restaurants but only if we genuinely want to. If we don't want to, no one is out to cancel us. I find it absolutely ludicrous how in the states, you have to tip anyone and everyone from the service staff to your barista! It is insane how in the grocery stores, you have to tip the clerks for checking out your stuff. I've seen people get offended just because they didn't get enough of an amount as a "tip". The minimum wages that these staff receive are really questionable but they should be taking that up with the management of their work place. Stop demonizing the people who don't tip you 2 dollars for a chewing gum they purchased! Have some integrity.

American people just need to get payed more. Man tipping should be always an option and no one should depent on tips.

As someone who works at a place with a tip iPad, if you are going to give me free money I will happily take it.

No other place normalize tipping as much as in the US

Why not set a minimum wage instead of tips though.

First off STOP USING A CREDIT-CARD.
Second, if they ask for a tip call for the manager and demand an explanation as to why they don't pay their employees a livable wage.

In the US, you get a lousy service and they demand tips. In Japan, you get a spectacular service but they refuse to be tipped.

It's not enough that we are paying taxes on
The money we make
The money we got
The money we save
Now we have to pay tips on the money we spend this multi billions companies should stop this non sense
