A full-fledged synopsis for the proposed movie accompanies the fanmade Back to the Future 4 trailer. It reads, "Tom Holland takes on the role of a brilliant young inventor, Jake McFly, who stumbles upon Doc Brown's long-lost journal. The journal contains secrets to enhance time travel capabilities, opening up new possibilities and unforeseen consequences. As Jake navigates through various timelines, he encounters both familiar faces and new challenges, all while trying to prevent a mysterious adversary from rewriting history." The trailer already has 1.8 million views at the time of writing since its Dec. 10 release.

Speculation about a potential Back to the Future 4 has been ongoing ever since the eponymous threequel in 1990. Franchise co-creator Bob Gale denounced the possibility of a fourth entry, telling Variety in July, "There’s no need to go back to that well. You've seen too many people go back too many times. As I've said many times, the characters in Back to the Future are my family, my children. You don't sell your kids into prostitution." Additionally, Fox expressed that he isn't keen on a Back to the Future reboot. The movie trilogy is widely revered, making over $965 million at the box office, with the first film receiving four Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Sound Editing.

Holland could play Marty's grandson who finds and repairs the rusted dead Delorean after Doc passes, doesn't realize it's a time machine until he reaches 88 mph and winds up back in 1995 with Grunge rock, land lines, windows 95 (used by no one), sagging jeans, the OJ trial, $.99 gas, and a dystopian, crime ridden downtown Hill Valley.

In the second movie, in my opinion, they would have done better to have Biff's son be the primary antagonist, instead of his future version. In that way, however, Biff was either the primary antagonist twice and at the same time the central antagonist of the second one. They made a bit of confusion. They could have done, dunno, that the son was called, for example, "Jeff". It would have been cool.
