Factoid: Ditching in the water is guaranteed to miss spectators because the water is too fucking cold in Seattle to actually swim in it. (I live here)

Any one you walk away from. You really don't have much time to pick.

Highly skilled pilot with an apparent engine failure. Landed in the perfect depth of water and an aggressive angle of attack to dissipate the energy perfectly before the tires hit the water. If you're going to crash land, this is how you want to do it

no place to land out there other than water. very well done by the pilot

That engine was sputtering, the beach was the best ditch area for sure.

In a high wing aircraft isn't it better to go full Flaps and stay in ground effect as long as possible, ideally drag the tail plane at the last second before touching the water?

This is in Seattle, specifically, the West Seattle neighborhood. Spuds Fish and Chips is close by.

Honestly the only way that could get better is if it more or less stalled in the water at a really slow speed and no damage was done

The more you analyze it the more you find out

Could have nocked 10 knots off with flaps down bud

Hope he was ok, good job, I wonder if adding flaps would have helped from flipping?

Hey.. I used to scuba dive there in 1988!!!

Sounds like the engine was losing power, and he had to land in the safest spot.

Seems like the go to place for a ditchin. Remember that restored constellation that ditched a while back somewhere around there. 😬

The flaps aren't extended whatsoever. Something definitely went wrong

Bro forgot it's not a float plane

It will be harder to exit a C152 with the flaps down.
