Awesome video! My team has gone through both phases, started with a specialist and then tried having a separate qa team as part of the scrum team and it's suuch a mess. This was a great video! I would add that behavior driven development is a great practice to adopt here. Not only does it get the whole team into the testing mindset, but to also bakes testing into the beginning of the process.

It’s interesting because a lot of people who actually created the agile manifesto aren’t huge fans of scrum except their creators. Most refer to scrum as a framework that is only on a small business scale and for later organizations they would use something like kanban or saFe. The other thing I’ve noticed is that many people refer to SM and Project managers as the same people. Which in the real world can certainly happen but I’m not sure if that’s actually the most effective approach towards Scrum.

If the QA specialist becomes redundant after a certain period of coaching the devs, then the same reasoning would apply to the scrum master. However, I don’t think the scrum master is supposed to be move to another team. There’s always a scrum master role. I would argue the same to be true for a qa specialist role.

What about mobile projects ou web projects, where testing requires many testing devices, on different resolutions, OS, browsers, etc ? I cant image all of the developpers having their own devices

I disagree with this approach. In the same way that dev is a specialized skill. QA is a specialized skill. This approach assumes that anybody can test stuff at the same level as a QA specialist.

How would you handle the reduction in velocity for a team decides the development team is now responsible for testing? They would obviously be taking on an additional taskload that they did not have before. Stakeholders will expect a velocity of "X" in terms of story points delivered within a set period. Its going to go down to less than "X"... What are the benefits to pitch?
