this doesn't matter. amp settings aren't universal, and then you have all the pedals he used, the cabs, the mics, the guitar and pickups.

his real settings were treble 8, bass 4, mids changed every show but usually at least 6. for distortion u scoop the treble and crank the bass

He turned he mids All the way up tho. Especially for teen spirit. Treble 8-9, Mids 10 and Bass 4

For a live setting just adjust slightly according to which era. Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero

imagine if u find out that every concert hall sounds different so you need different amp settings to get that tone right... its not the gear... but the surroundings.... a wise person.. aka myself

Kurt is on record saying he has his mids up all the way

His mids were prominent, he had to crank em to get over the mid scoop of his DS-1. I dont think theres a specific setting to get his sound, just put treble somewhere above 6 below 10, mids high enough to get over the DS-1 midscoop and bass around 5. Then again, the way the settings sounds change in EVERY amp, Fenders, Marshalls, Vox, theyll all sound different even with the same EQ settings. Just fiddle about until you hear a clean tone similar to the one you want, crank the distortion and play

Knowing knob settings means nothing with out knowing how loud the rest of the band is playing and how your sound cuts through. Guitar pickups, pedals, diff amps, how you strum all combine to make your sound.

I thought it was TEN TEN TEN if we're talking about Kurt Cobain

I play synths, samplers, midi controllers, keyboards, drum machines etc. I can actually read music and play it and I'm a qualified electronics engineer.
The Holier than thou Guitarists I've met. FFS!
They don't even realise how heavy the electronic processing is on a guitar.
Even Hendrix wouldn't have a sound without his Sound Engineer setting up his amps and processors. Especially the feedback noise Hendrix loved so much.
All music is electronic and has been for decades.

I mean this with as much respect as possible... but are you simple boy?

To parrot the other dude, not how it works. So much more than amp settings. There's pedals, guitar, amp, cab (which affects tone more than the head) pick and playing. So congrats, you found the same or similar settings, unfortunately it doesn't really help anyone sound like Kobain.

if you think just adjusting your amp settings to certain levels is gonna make you sound just like something you heard then you couldn't be more wrong. what about the actual guitar settings and pickups you don't think they play a huge part in guitar sound?

“Hey, I got the amp settings Cobain used dialed into my amp!”

First of all… It doesn’t matter what settings you use because not all amps are the same.

Second, the “sound” is dependent on the speaker. If it’s not the same type used by him, your “settings” will be irrelevant. It can be close but it’s never going to be exact.

If you want his signature sound, you’re better off using plug-ins and IRs from the speakers and can that he’d actually used instead of pretending this is his sound with this amp.

Amp settings are like white balance in photography.

Didn't even use a reverb for this song. Only used one for bleach.
