This was really helpful.
If you can't get it to work, a tip is to log out of your Google account and stop the synchronization immediately.
Then just follow the instructions in this video.
After that...Restart the computer, open chrome, export bookmarks and save them on the desktop.
Then you log in to your Google account and import bookmarks. it worked for me.
In my case I could go back 3 hours (.bak file)
And it saved me from a catastrophe.

what if I do not have the .bak file? I think I have fixed my issuenow, but there is still no .BAK file (only the normal file titled just bookmark) so is there a way for me to have a .bak file made so if I need it in the future it will be there?

Rakesh, I have a similar issue you may know how to answer. Do you know how to restore Chrome to an earlier time? This issue happened to me last year and now I can't remember the fix. I have lots of open tabs at all times, I had to update and restart recently and when I went to my normal history it only showed some of my recently closed tabs but not all. Last year I found a video (maybe even from you) that showed how to restore Chrome to a previous date/time for example like a month ago, this way whatever tabs I had open a month ago would reopen for me today as if it were my most recent history. I know it was a similar path like you took in this video to get to the bookmarks but I can't remember how it went.. Do you know what I am talking about and have a suggestion?
I know there is a video showing this on youtube but I am either having trouble finding it or it was removed..
