In UK, we do not use mayonnaise. We use salted butter (room temperature - take butter out of fridge 30 minutes beforehand to soften) . Butter is spread on both slices of bread. Then thin cucumber slices are placed on one slice of bread. The 2nd slice of bread is placed over the top. Then the crusts are cut of. The sandwich is then cut into triangles and put on plates to eat. They are eaten with cups of tea. You can have milk or lemon in your tea. Do not use margarine or 'spread'. It will taste awful! You must use 100% butter. Mayonnaise has sugar in it, butter does not have any additives. In UK, we pronounce Worcestershire sauce as "wooster" sauce. We do not pronounce the 'shire' part of the name at all. Hope this helps!! Enjoy sandwiches ! Thanks ❤😊

Tho not strictly the English way I put a little cream cheese as well as pure butter onto the bread to give a richer flavour . Cut into triangles. I often serve with chilled tomato soup with a swirl of creme fraiche and a sprinkling of finely chopped chives 😋

I made these today and I got a pro tip.

By cutting the sandwich last you will end up with a lot of borders, you can leave them for later as a snack ...but I find people usually would discard the crust because its too much.

What I do is ... I cut the crust before hand on a clean board and you can freeze the borthers clean so on a later late you can make bread flan/pudin out of them :)

I made up a picnic last weekend and it included cucumber sandwiches. Cucumbers from my garden. My daughter commented straight away on the sauce! It was a hit. Though I didn’t have the Worcestershire sauce .or chives.

These comments are not helpful. I get it, it sounds like people think there are too many ingredients, but is it good? It sounded good to me, so I decided to make it. The sandwich is delicious. The cream cheese mixture has a nice, bright flavor. Perfect for a light lunch or snack. Would recommend making this.

I have been wanting a cucumber sandwich here lately. I remember my mom making these and I think she just used mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Great video and thank you for this recipe. I will be trying it.
