You've probably heard of HD Radio before, but did you ever wonder how it works or why it is such an important feature in your car?

On HD Radio Why do the HD2 and HD3 Radio Signals never do commercials and ads at all like the HD1 signals do?

There is no point of it if it gonna sound the same as the compressed crap Internet radio have. The signal strength is also less usable than analog.

The choice of HD tuners is still limited. And places like Best Buy don't even know what HD Radio is at all. The Sony HD tuner I had crapped out and I'm thinking of the Sangean. Does anyone know it they are any good?

I don't understand the "metallic gongy tin can noise" or "metal pipe" or "metal trash can lid" comments here. I've had HD radios for more than 10 years and currently have one in two of our three cars. The sound quality is far superior to standard FM radio.

What a failure this HD Radio. Over 20 years later and it’s so rare. Apparently, the system failed to proliferate because of high royalties and fees. Sell less at a higher price or sell more at a lower price. DAB will eventually take over.

Free? HD radio seems to be a scam to force us to buy a new device. Already, some broadcasts I enjoyed for decades have moved to HD, and there is no adapter I can use on my existing devices.

The FCC should abandon HD Radio and switch to an open standard like DAB for digital broadcasting. This proprietary monopoly is nothing but crony capitalism, and an absolute market failure. Other countries laugh at us for still using analog broadcast FM radio, because HD radio is expensive crap that nobody has, wants or needs.
