As a resident it's going back to normal; a caldera filled with lava. That plume was an every day occurance before the last erruption when the lava went all the way to the ocean from a new vent down slope. At night the glow lit up the plume and you could see it from various places outside of the park. That caldera filled with lava attracted millions of visitors because you could view it up close.
