It was a true corporate drama in the tech world. Within a week, CEO Sam Altman was fired from artificial intelligence leader OpenAI, hired by Microsoft, then rehired by OpenAI. Ahead of his ouster, several staffers wrote a letter to the OpenAI board warning of a powerful new AI discovery - raising new concerns about the potential dangers of the technology. We ask Fanny Hidvegi of Access Now, a non-profit organization focused on defending digital civil rights, what could be behind the machinations.

The board was from the future to try to prevent him from passing the OpenAI funding bill. Human decisions will be removed from the strategic defense system. OpenAI will then become self-aware. "There is no fate except the fate we make for ourselves."

Sam Altman and minions were/are ideologically aligned with MS and therefore they had every interest in being accelerationists and even at the start of Sam's involvement in openAI his interest was in building AGI asap, in being an accelerationist. It was his involvement with the "effective altruists", the financial arm of Communist/democrat left and his associations with them that started the misnomer of Sam as an "effective altruist". Keep in mind he is not by definition an effective altruist, just by branding done by the media.
Effective altruism began outside of silicon valley and it's origin, truly, was with Sam Bankman-Fried and him propping up the DNC with his scam. The most important thing to understand is that they are not effective altruists in the literal sense. Effective altruism is the behavioralist definition of capitalism, and they are definitely not capitalists, they are power hungry oligarchs in the making, they were/are the true accelerationists. The term 'effective altruism' is just a convenient cover for their communist/usurpatious intentions.
It was only when the effective accelerationist movement started, those opposed this cryptobro based effective altruists, that two sides started to form, and this is when effective altruism, with it's close ties to Washington D.C. came to be branded as the ones who wanted serious AI regulations. The effective altruists were intimidated by this movement. After this movement started gaining ground and influence Ilyia and the board came to the realization that Sam and MS's position on AI is actually quite weak, and they subsequently adopted this ideology and then carried out the coup.

OpenAI is valued north of $62 Billion, this is why Altman went back....he has stock in about the money. Same with the 700 plus employees who threatened to quit and go to all got stock in on paper and don't want to lose it....

2:35 "... and now for analysis of what's going on in an American tech firm specializing in AI, located in the Bay Area, California, USA, here is an obscure European Policy analyst type who thinks we're still talking about Facebook!"

Scary if the ‘expert’ says she wants to see this technology, which soon might able to hack all encryption (Q* algorithm) in as many hands as possible.
And while I truly agree in equal gender representation on the board, this is not the key concern with the potential impact that AGI can have.
It’s ironic that the real experts who work in the field or apply LLMs all warn us, but these policy experts don’t even make an effort to try to understand the impact of the technology.
It would be better if DW would invite experts who have understood what AGI is about.

FYI, one of the two female former board members who were ousted before Altman's return is called called Helen Tonor and she's part of the effect altruists movement that the guest mentioned.

Export the Azure, Power Apps, Copilot, Chat GPT, Revit, Plant 3D, Civil 3D, Inventor, ENGI file of the Building or Refinery to Excel, prepare Budget 1 and export it to COBRA. Prepare Budget 2 and export it to Microsoft Project. Solve the problems of Overallocated Resources, Planning Problems, prepare the Budget 3 with which the construction of the Building or the Refinery is going to be quoted.

It shows us that the people in charge of developing this technology in a responsable way are not up to the task.

Both are extremely ignorant about extinction risks. The guest says they are "very very longterm". She has no clue. Many AI-researcher now say these risks are quite possibly 3 to 5 years away. For example, Amodei the CEO of Anthropic, or Shea the person who would have replaced Altman as CEO. German journalists are generally totally ignorant on this matter.

I like how his brief aparence at Microsoft changed a few things temporarily. I wish I knew more about it, 😁🥶 Triton cannot make one's mind up without appropriate and comprehensive accurate information.

The investors kicked out the board members that have an altruistic view …..
The new board would be money focused.
Ethics vs monies …….monies always win.
Who doesn’t want to be a multi billionaire?

Firing him is more drastic than people think. Being fired is the last straw. He was hied back but to be fired says it’s a hot mess at open AI. Dangerous people

In a nutshell here is what happened: AI became so good that main people from inside (Ilija) started worrying about future of mankind and not looking into profit. But corporate virus had already spread into the employees (since they got their shares). Worrying about humanity lower the price of shares. That is how Sam got back.
