A teen from Texas has a simple, inspiring goal for 2022. She wants to walk. Makayla Noble, 17, is a world-class cheerleader whose skill dazzled everyone who saw her perform. In an instant, her life changed when she was practicing flips at a friend’s house ahead of the Homecoming Pep Rally. Makayla says she landed on her neck and face and suffered a severe spinal cord injury. Doctors said it was unlikely that she would ever walk again, but she’s determined to prove them wrong.

The fact that she is able to accept that she may never walk again with a smile and then try her best to prove them wrong anyways is incredible. That's an extremely strong spirit.

This reminds me of my niece's friend Samantha. She was paralyzed after a car accident during their high school days. She has spend the last 15 years in a wheelchair, and will never walk again; but that didn't stop her from being in great spirits all the time. She is always happy, and that amazes me.

Look at her face. You can just tell that she accepts what has happened, & is going to do her best to push through it. No bitterness; no feeling sorry for herself. You got this girl; there's no doubt about it.

What a delightful young lady Makayla is. As well as brave, strong and, it seems, fearless of the hurdles that undoubtedly will lay before her as she musters the courage to rebuild her life. Well done Makayla! I honestly can’t think of anyone with such drive and determination to achieve what must currently feel like an impossible situation. You’ll do it kid. You’ll do it. Peace, prayers and more love than can possibly be expressed. Keep cheering the cheerleaders 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻💕🙏🏻

That girl is tough as hell, she's clearly already ignored the doctors opinion and taken matters into her own hands. Her family and friends support will do the rest. Get it done girl!! 💯

This reminds me of when I was 15 and broke my back in a car accident. My school gave me a courage award, I got letters from people around the world when my story was printed in the paper, everyone said “if anyone will be able to get up and beat the odds, it’s you”. People loved how happy, positive, and inspiring I was. But then it got hard. The support stopped as people moved on. No one knew how to support me beyond “I know you’ll walk again”. When I didn’t, I felt like a failure. And it didn’t make other people feel good anymore, so I lost my support network. I’m fine, but two decades later I still can’t walk. I hope maybe one day something amazing happens that changes that, but I have had to learn as an adult how to process that pain, how to allow myself to feel the pain without feeling like a disappointment, and how to live myself as a disabled person. I hope this girl does beat the odds and walk, but if she doesn’t, I hope she doesn’t feel like she failed. And I hope people support her no matter what.

I’m 16, born with Myelomeningocele spina bifida, the third and one of the most severe levels. Most children with this level, cannot walk, or preform basic human functions. From day 1, I was told that I wouldn’t last 1 week. Through 5 surgeries, many many physical therapy appointments, and sheer determination, I am now able to walk, without assistance at all. Granted I’m still working on it, it happened. The same can happen with makayla if she believes in herself and is determined. Which she is. She has the right mindset to defy the same odds I did and walk, and preform again.

Damn, poor girl. So talented. I hope she can regain as much movement as she can. She's young so she has youth on her side.
