Hospitality is huge due to tourism.

For more than 18 years, I called Billings home—a place where employment is scarce, compelling its residents to eke out a living through makeshift "businesses." It's a bleak reality, underscored by my last visit in October, which revealed little more than a proliferation of coffee shops and eateries amidst stagnation. My research paints a grim picture: widespread property liens, a testament to the crippling property taxes. Amidst this despair, the community persists in their voting patterns, evoking a complex mixture of sentiment that, sometimes, makes empathy a challenging endeavor.
