Floyd Medical Center's Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is opening a third Polk County location at Polk Medical Center, a member of the Floyd health system, beginning April 1.
The new headquarters provides the department with a Cedartown headquarters to better meet the needs of residents in east Polk County. Floyd also has two emergency medical stations in Rockmart.
"As part of Floyd's new management agreement we will be utilizing our base station out of Polk Medical Center," said Bud Owens, director of Floyd EMS. "We will house one 24-hour, advanced life support ambulance and one 12-hour advanced life support ambulance in Polk County.
"We feel like we have built a great base of support in Rockmart. This is an extension of what we have already been doing in Polk County since July, 2009."
Because Floyd is not the designated EMS provider for the Polk County 911 system, residents who want Floyd EMS to care for them must specifically ask for a Floyd ambulance when dialing 911.
"Now, all of Polk County will have access to exceptional paramedics and EMTs who care about them," Owens said. "We feel our customer service exceeds any EMS agency in the region, and we are excited to be able to provide this level of care for our patients. We will be providing state-of- the-art medical equipment on the ambulance sand state-of-the-art medical protocols. In the event of a medical emergency our staff is prepared to take care of any need."
