A year ago I went into my brothers room and thought I found him dead. He was overdosing from taking 4 bars of Xanax. It was absolutely terrifying and something I'll never forget.

He was laying in bed sleeping, his mouth open but it didn't look like he was breathing, his skin was very pale almost greyish, and when I was shaking him to wake up it took nearly a minute before his eyes opened. I sometimes wonder if had I not waken him up would he have died in his sleep. When his eyes finally opened after me screaming to wake up I feel to the ground and cried like I never had before. I can't explain how scary it was.

Opioid addiction is so terrifying and there is an epidemic where I am from in Canada. If you know someone who is addicted please show some mercy, it is an addiction and addicts are usually trying to suppress something when taking painkillers. Getting angry and shaming them does not help... you need to show them love and stay with them in their journey to getting sober.

My brother was able to overcome his heavy addiction, and so can anyone else.
