Contemporary & traditional embroiderers from the English county of Lancashire share their beautiful work in a group exhibition at the Coach House Gallery at the 400 year old Astley Hall in Chorley, England. Textile artist Susan Fielding guides us through the exhibition. “The exhibition was inspired by the people and places of our home county. For some of us the rural landscapes of hills, moors and coastal areas, and the habitat they provide for native animals and birds were a major source of creativity. For others, the architecture of some of our historic buildings and the urban landscapes of the mill towns acted as a stimulus.” Members of the Ribble Creative Stitchers and Bolton Stitch & Textile Group, used a combination of both traditional and contemporary textile practices, coupled with mixed-media techniques, to produce creative and inspiring textile art. Filmed at Astley Hall Coach House Gallery in Chorley, England 2022.

This is such an amazing exhibition with a wide variety of very talented stitchers and celebrating the wonderful heritage of Lancashire it has given me the motivation to do something myself although I don't think to the standard of the ones in this video ! 🥰

What talent you ladies have. Being born and bred in Lancashire, myself, in the early forties, I found this most interesting, as a lot of the older generation, at that time, still wore shawls and long skirts. In fact, I still have my own baby clogs.

All so lovely! I am particularly in love with the Curlew piece, and the mill worker and rules, "Deeds not Words" is compelling! Wish i could own them, but will settle for appreciating them here..
Thank you, Aa!!

Thank you for making this video. What incredibly talented and imaginative ladies that made these pieces. It's really important to honour the haritage of where you live. Being from right down the other end of the country it was really interesting to hear about the different aspects and places in Lancashire. The hoop work was definitely the worthy winner.

Wow, what a beautiful exhibit and works of art. I live in Holyoke, Massachusetts in the United States, and it is a small city with a strong industrial heritage. I have been thinking about making some collage projects with old bits of ephemera I have collected here. Thank you for this inspiration!
