'Stunning Embroidery Exhibitions' (No:6) | Society for Embroidered Work | Contemporary Stitched Art

“Stitched Art is Art” - Have you discovered The Society for Embroidered Work? Stitch based artists Cat Frampton and Emily Tull co-founded S.E.W. in 2018, to raise the profile of embroidery as a recognised art form - in response to opinions that ‘Stitched work is just a Craft’. Its international membership currently stands at 460 and is growing. The aim of S.E.W is to promote and support artists who have an element of stitching in their artworks, hand or machine and traditional or contemporary forms of embroidery. S.E.W. have open calls each year; register on their website for updates. Filmed at the Clerkenwell Gallery, London. Watching this it struck me the OTHER sense being employed is TOUCH...whereas I would never WANT to touch a drawing or painting Textiles (and no I would never touch an exhibited piece either) but it involves touch perhaps, texture, we RESPOND to it with MORE senses than we would to a painting...my 2 cents...
