When I heard Hendrix as a kid I knew there was something special about his tone he's playing his effects, that he was the best to my tastes . Then I heard Tommy, same deal. to me they are equals to their genius. My two favorite guitar players, if I had to add another one it would be Jeff Beck, because he plays with such personality, he make's the guitar talk/sing, and uses his whammy bar like no other

I saw Tommy at Winterland in SF. He was so nodded out that at one point there were two guys walking him around on the stage, each holding him up by an armpit. Then they went offstage and that was the end of his set. This was in '76. He opened for Marriot, followed by Trower. I've seen the Trower set here on YT if anyone is interested.

I was hitch hiking out of northwest Georgia near the Tennessee border heading home to NY in 1980 early summer and he and his girlfriend picked me up in a powder blue mustang heading back from Florida I thought they said, I was holding a cardboard sign that read NY unless it was someone else from the Vanilla Fudge. I was 18 years old and grateful to get a ride all the way to near the NY/Pa border.

Worked on a gig in the 70's with Tommy opening up for was pale as a ghost and very reclusive, he was touring to support his "Private Eyes" record, everybody except Rush stayed in a motel just off the I-5, when Tommy left his room to do something, he would leave his TV on full

Mark Stein has said that he knew it was just a matter of time before Bolin would be gone. What a waste.

Well that was mostly the interviewer rambling and a few seconds from Carmine Appice.

That's the first interview that Carmine didn't tell everybody how great he was

For those who didn't grow up in the 70s, drugs were everywhere. You name it, you could get it. It's so sad that creative talents like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Tommy Bolin, etc., died so young as a result of substance abuse. Those artists who didn't drop dead from excessive drug and alcohol consumption in their 20s or 30s and are alive today should count their blessings and good genes that they still perform, though some should just hang it up.

I often wonder what Tommy Bolin would be like today. It’s so sad he never got to grow old. It’s a waste of tremendous talent🥲🙏🏻✌🏻

Tommy Bolin chose drugs over creativity and it killed him...end of story.

Such a waste. So many genius talents dead before 30.
