Lower energy losses. Improved efficiency. One percent fuel saving from the rear axle alone. Even more to gain thanks to the full integration with the new gearbox, making it possible to utilise faster rear axle gears. Scania’s team of axle developers has done it again.

Why do engineers bow to the bean counters? Running less fluid and a non serviceable oil filter is a step backwards for longevity, no matter what the computer models indicate. All it does is save on manufacturing costs, which is what the bean counters want.

No... the permanent filter and less flow is a step backwards in my opinion, stop trying to reinvent the wheel

We've replaced the easily replaceable filter with one that is almost impossible to replace.

Why even bother with an oil filter if you can't service it? It would save a few pennies when making the item but cost a lot when the unit fails either from a blocked unservicable filter or material failure. One of which will happen eventually.

Ah, so this lower oil level, deleted bearing, and internal “permanent” filter (hunh?) are improvements similar to diesels now having egr with variable vane turbos followed up with particulate filters and/or def fluid.
Hard pass.. I’ll rebuild and run the pre-emissions options that get great mileage with great reliability at 1/3 the cost of new, plus parts are cheap and I can do the work myself.
So sick of companies trying to convince us less-is-more all in the name of fuel economy… how about shop labor rates, computer/sensor/emissions problems, cheaper lower quality unproven parts? When does all that get weighed against the fuel economy hype? Anyone else remember when trucks were better built, longer lasting, and went further and/or made more power per liter/gallon?

Less Oil, no filtre Change. It will be reliable like the new engine with ist simple timingchain from a bicycle. But, hey, throw it away and buy a new truck, just for ecology.

Sorry guys, we had MAN, F2000, more than 1mio kilometer with one Powertrain and less than 35 Litre consumption. Scania the same at this time. Only Oil and filtre change, that was it.

When bean counters build an Axle:
A single percent fuel saving but it has no external oil filter and there is less oil in the axle.

So essentially this axle is a throwaway item now or what?

Not sure if the subtitles translation is working, but "permanent oil filter" seems to be wrong. You may be able to have a "lifecycle" worthy oil filter embeded, as in, it will last the normal lifecycle of the differential up until a dispose or rebuild scenario.
The oil flow in truck differentials has been an interesting subject of discussion in the past 5 years or so. Before there was just acceptance in very orthodox and traditional designs or even changes made based on little or no scientific study. I'm wondering what sort of study you guys made, because ideally you should have less fluid mass to create mechanical losses, but you need proper lubrication and heat dissipation, including at hotter climates.

What the fuck were you thinking you engineers make my mechanics life hell

When they say 'life' of component its 'warranty period life'

Built in oil filter? Of course, when the diff breaks apart owner will have to buy to Scania a whole new axle or at least rebuilt it

"Maximized Profit"... I remember a story about an airline that used to have salads with two olives in it. They cut that to 1, and it saved the airline $35, 000.

why the presenter in this video seems to have pronounced eye bags, lack of sleep ?

An oil filter you can't change without rebuilding the entire axle? What could possibly go wrong...

So many words, so little information.

I worry when I hear anything being changed to life time/no service intervals. Similar to BMW timing chains? Engineered to fail so your at the parts department more often.

So you made a "permanent" filter so people can not change it buy they have to buy a new truck (or axle assembly). Wow thank you.
