Yay, you used my Penguin Adventure comment! ;) I guess my other four choices didn't really stand a chance, being obscure and Japanese-only, but Penguin Adventure just HAD to get a mention, and it looks like my prediction that it would show up on a lot of other people's lists was entirely accurate. But then, how could it not? One look at that game and it's hard not to be impressed and immediately engrossed.

Always fascinating seeing these lists. I wonder how much different the list would look if voted upon by Japanese MSX users, though? I'm certain it would look MUCH different on the whole, though the top entries would mostly be the same.

This takes me back, still got my MSX in a cupboard with the cartridge games, sad I got rid of my cassettes after my tape recorder broke nearly 30yrs ago, but still have fond memories in my teens of going to Bedford to Tavistock HIFI to get my Konami cartridges, and other games, those were the days.

I'm so happy that Guardic made into the list. Such an awesome shmup. There's nothing quite like it even to this day. It could be made better by having an in-game map and showing what enemy types there are going to be for each screen, to make the whole strategy aspect better.

Thanks for the inclusion of my review about Nemesis 3! Well, I think the 1st place was pretty well deserved, the ranking was quite interesting to see, but... NO Falcom games made the Top 20, nor any single pure RPG (even though Maze of Gallious has some elements of the genre)!! In fact, I'm not that surprised, since most of them weren't translated to Western audience, except during the emulation era by the ROM-hacks...

My favorite one (some would say, a Metroidvania), Dragon Slayer IV, wasn't even remembered - despite the fact I acknowledge its iteration in the MSX 2 an even better one. Did it make the Top 40?

I was particularly glad for the inclusion of the Compile classics that are Guardic and Zanac A.I., to break a bit of the Konami dominance! But I do love what Konami did for the system... Looking forward to the MSX 2 episode!

Good stuff.Quite a few games here I've never even heard of, let alone played.

Loved to watch this video. Brought me back in those good old days. Unfortunately I didn't see games like Roadfighter, Spelunker, Yie-Ar-Kungfu or Pitfall 2 in the list. I played those game a lot. Luckily there are emulators because my old msx died long ago. So I can play those old games over and over. I think you could even make a top 50 of these because there were so many good games. That Antarctic Adventure is number one is not a surprise for me. That was a fantastic game. Played it for many hours.
I was a great fan of Konami. They made a lot of fantastic games.

For MSX1 my absolute favorite game was Boulder Dash 1 and 2. I played lazy jones and zanac a lot too. I also liked the nemesis series as well as kings valley. Salamander was the only cartridge I've bought back in the day, they were expensive. Arkanoid was also a game I played a lot as well as roller ball or one of the pinball games. Road fighter was a fun little game too. Hidelyde series was good too. Q-bert had some great music and animation.
For MSX2 with disk based games there are many great games like metal gear, fray, golvellius2, hydefos, feedback, Ys series, laydock etc. But my all time favorite was Aleste 1 closely followed by zanac ex.

In my opinion, Hype is one of the best shooters ever made and one of the best msx games.

I am also a Knightmare and Nemesis 2 person, those are my top 2. From this list River Raid and HERO would be quite high in my top. I could never get into Kings Valley or Maze of Gallious.
The absences that surprised me are Golvelious, Thexder, Eggerland Mystery and Yie Are Kung Fu 2.

In Spain, the Spectrum was much more popular. I was one of the few kids at the time who had an MSX. Most MSX games were ports from the Spectrum, like Jack the Nipper (a great game, by the way), and original games were hard to find. My prized possession was the cartridge of The Maze of Galious. It's still a fantastic game.

Little suprised to not see Knightlore on the list or the great northsea helicopter on the list. But i can agree on most on the list. So many great games. So difficult to pick just 200. I mean 20...

I don't have much experience with the MSX—probably broader experience with MSX2 games but still not many—so I couldn't really think of a top-5 to give. However, the results ended up fairly close to what I figured, but of the ones I've played, these are great games. As always, I do love those TMS9918 colors. I kind of fell in love with Antarctic Adventure many years ago, but never played Penguin Adventure; looks like I need to play it. Probably the MSX games (not including MSX2) I've played the most (because I played Antarctic Adventure on Colecovision) are the Hyper Sport games, but that's mainly because I love that type of game.
