I've never been into japanese games but the truth is, during that time, some of these games from the likes of konami or namco had a polish and depth you could not find in games from western publishers. I'm thinking about F1 spirit for example.
Imagine those companies doing fully dedicated games to the C64, it could have been very impressive.

If it wasn't for its less than ideal scrolling capabilities, the MSX would be the definitive 8-bit micro. Pretty much every Japanese developer worked on it, so the quality generally quite high, with many games that simply have no equivalent on the C64/CPC/Spectrum and the likes (eg. Zanac, Knightmare, Golvellius). And the Spectrum ports, while often not very good, add a huge selection of western games. Probably the most complete library of game in its time.

Good to see some 'proper' msx games, is a pity they got lumped with dodgy speccy ports much like the cpc. Excellent stuff.

Always puzzled me that the Japanese developers never cracked a smoother full colour scroll. All those Speccy ports manage a (non-optimised) smooth scroll in monochrome and Desolator manages it in limited colour. Still, love the MSX so great to see this.
