The cinematography and editing simply blew me away. Even if you take away the great story (which it has thankfully ) the level of craft involved and impeccable direction alone makes it stand tall among the best movies of the year in my opinion.Great cinematic achievement from Suresh Triveni and team.

The movie was so edgy and scary. What range one must have to go from ‘Tumhari Sulu’ to ‘Jalsa’. Also, a beautiful portrait of Girlboss Feminism. Shefali Shah and Vidya Balan were absolutely fabulous and we should’ve seen them more on screen but whatever little we saw was good. Also, I’m so happy that some attempt was made at portraying trauma.

Spoiler warning - movie could have ended when vidhya was stuck in jalsa and kid died. It is just my opinion.

Ending wasn't convincing. Other than that movie was quite good. Watching Shefali Shah and Vidya Balan is a treat

Vidya Balan has aced playing a grey character. A reminder that writers need to do better.

Great cast and a decent plot. Well put-together. It was tad bit slow for me - could have easily edited 10-15 minutes. I liked how Maya's son does not listen to her to show his disapproval in one instant. Could not help but chuckle when Ruksana's son plays with a sensor-enabled flush. Always nice to watch both protagonists who are great performers. Watch it for Shefali and how she conveys her feelings through her eyes. For a thriller, things need to move at a faster pace in my opinion.

Great review, but for some reason you completely ignored the fourth key woman character in the film vidhatri (Rohini George). She had more screen time than Manav Kaul, why was she ignored? is it only because she is a lesser known actress.

The best thing about watching 'Jalsa' for me was how hooked and intrigued I was from the very first scene, having had absolutely no idea where the film would be heading. I had not read anything about it, nor watched any trailer or even teaser; just the presence of Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah was enough for me to click on the 'play' button. Despite, as AnupamaJi has rightly pointed out in the review, some plausibility issues, 'Jalsa' is a brilliant film, the subtleties in the screenplay and the riveting performances make it a must-watch film. Btw, the immediate comparison I had in my mind was with 'The White Tiger' - seen last year (one of my top ten faves of 2021), and 'Jalsa' is almost as good.

"..and the myriad ways in which people compromise. Even those who claim to be champions of the truth." Brilliant line. Makes me think of the makers of a certain film released last week.

Apart from the stellar performances by the Stars... one telling comment... An old man tells Maya in the lift that as he was Honest he couldnt be a journalist... its the scariest and ugliest truth of our times... no matter how cynical and outlandish it might sound but fact remains tat nowadays most successful people r easy on morality... and Maya confessing is the typical Bollywood playin to the gallery.... But Shefali Shah... Wow ..wow....wat an

Honestly, the show stealer was Shefali Shah. She doesn't need a dialogue to emote. Just her face, especially those eyes are sufficient to convey

How awesome were Vidya and Shefali .it was great to see Rohini hattangadi back .
Hip hip hooray three times to the Ott platforms for giving such meaty roles to woman in different age group.
Just loved the roles of vidya and Shefali .They were just too good and their performance inspiring .
Great review Anupama.-It made me watch the movie.

As always love your review. Just one disappointment you did not mention Surya Kasibhatia who has contributed well.

Sadly, No One mentioned the outstanding Background music, which in fact made all scenes so impactful.

Looking forward to watching this. Their interview together was fabulous, and I've always loved watching both of them on screen.
