The objectives of Biological Treatment wastewater are to coagulate and reomove the non settleable colloidal solids and to stablize the organic matter. Biological Treatment System are living systems which rely on mixed biological culture to break down waste organic and remove organic matter from solution.
Biological Treatment System can be aerobic , anaerobic and aerobic - anaerobic.
Sludge generated in Secondary Sedimentation Tank mostly consists of living or active microorganisms hence it is referred as Activated Sludge. Activated Sludge is recirculated back into the system in order to carry out decomposition of organic matter hence this process Activated Sludge Process. ASP is designed primarily for satisfaction of Carbonaceous BOD which is done by heterotrophs (Aerobic).
