That... is not how logic and evidence work. It's impossible to prove that something doesnt exist, so the burden of proof is on the religious people to prove there IS a god

These discussions are so poorly constructed, it's no surprise that problems arise. We don't accept the claim that a God exists because those who claim a God does exist, are unable to demonstrate it. That's it, atheism justified.

He's not wrong. All of the world's religions could be wrong, and it would still not prove that no god exists. But I don't see what his point is, besides saying that one particular atheist hadn't thought that idea through at that time.

For the millionth time, atheism is not the belief that there is no god, it's the lack of a belief in gods.
