There is a huge misconception about airports ever since the 10 most lists came out. Most people will agree that no airport that has a straight in approach, good surface, and good weather isn't dangerous. All you have to do is fly a plane that fits into that situation and don't push your minimums to the maximum. Everyone lists St. Maartin, but the truth is that it is only dangerous to the people on the beach and traffic. They have proven in good weather that anything can land there. The runway is over 10, 000 feet long. As for the fence, it would be nothing for a 50 ton airplane to knock down. It wouldn't affect the landing at all. I am not saying that these runways aren't pushed beyond what the minimums should be. 747's shouldn't be landing where there is no room for error. I would much rather send two 737's and not push the envelope than try and do something that puts lives in jeopardy.

This reminds me of when a buddy used to fly a seaplane up in the Adirondacks of New York State. He was fearless when it came to weather and the wind and a many a times he actually made me pray during a landing or takeoff. But I will never forget his full teeth smile when it went great and we didn’t die!!!!
