3:58. That doesn't account for the fact that there are millions of cars on the roads in LA today; back then there were probably only thousands of horse drawn carriages on the roads of London. You werent three times more likely to die; the reality is that your odds were much higher then that.

I think the reason there were less vehicle deaths in modern LA than 1800s London was due to the copious amounts of safety devices on modern cars. Crumple zones, airbags, seatbelts; these all help protect the occupants from injury. Getting into a carriage accident would be like locking yourself in a wooden box and flinging it off your roof.
