The flashlight breaking does happen in-game, in the 2 and 3-star endings. The flashlight falls out of Oswald's pocket while he's struggling against the Yellow Rabbit and shatters while the sequence goes on. Since everything beyond that point is either a game over or an ending, there's no real loss to it.

I'm pretty sure the game still takes place in modern day, it's just that Oswald's family doesn't have the money to buy modern electronics

Actually, the reason for all of the older looking tech in Oswald's house is simply a result of Oswald's financial situation. The original book drives this point home a lot more, with Oswald mentioning how he's a little jealous of the kids at his school who have modern smartphones and tablets. This is also more than likely why the tablet minimap screen was cut. The game doesn't really keep as much attention on this aspect of Oswald's life compared to the book

There are a couple of NPCs you can talk to that imply the game is set pretty close to our current year. There's one kid literally called "Vtuber Fan" who talks about his favorite vtubers, and there's another kid who mentions actual Mega Cat games that both came out within the last 2 years.

To be honest, after reading the book that the game was based off, I think that it was actually taking place in a time close to the current one. At the start of the book, it was mentioned that after school other kids played with their tablets and handhelds, while his family was poor and didn't have anything like that.

If I had to theorize why the Megacat Studios animatronic was removed it probably was just to avoid fans speculating its an actual canonical animatronic in this franchise. Like I think at this point Scott is very much aware of how fans pick apart every little thing in these games and rarely treat Easter eggs as just being fun meaningless additions so lol

Honestly the idea of Mega Cat featuring there logo as a in game reference wouldn’t of been to weird for this franchise since in both Ruin and Help Wanted 2 Steel Wool included there robotic sheep mascot on a cardboard cutout

I want to clarify- Into The Pit seems to take place closer to the 2020s as opposed to the 90s or early 2000s. In the book, it's mentioned that Oswald only had an old phone because of how little money his family makes, and he watches YouTube at the library and sees other kids playing with smartphones and tablets. There is also an NPC in the school ingame, called "V-Tuber Fan".

I got a CRT as a gift in 2010. It is very much possible the game takes place in the early 2010's with the Mill closing due to the 2008 Financial Crisis. 2013-1983=30 years, plus Oswald is 10, and if his Dad was the one wearing the Freddy Mask when Dave was bit and was only 14 or 15 when that happened. Well, that adds up to Oswald's Dad being middle-aged in his mid-40's when the game's present takes place. Entirely reasonable.
