Dry needling technique is a pain management technique which is a very powerful tool to relieve pain coming from the muscle. We target the points in the muscles, we call those points as trigger points that is prevalent in most of the conditions like we have neck pain you get the muscles to be tender here, if you have shoulder pain, you have 5he muscles tender here.. when you have knee pain, you have the muscles tender over the hamstrings or the quadriceps. So more often and not, these muscles harbour the trigger points. Trigger points are nothing but, not un the middle of the muscle, which is painful upon contraction and refers pain upon contraction to the distal side if stretched as well. So, it pains locally, it refers pain to the distal side, after it is misdiagnosed as a joint pain or nerve pain wherein it is actually coming from the trigger points or the muscles. These trigger points are specifically targeted by these dry needles. So what these dry needles are? They are monofilament needles, something like an acupuncture needles which we use to penetrate the muscle which is harbouring the trigger point. How does it work? It works like in so many mechanisms. The common mechanism are three, local, mechanical, chemical and central neural. So, these are the three ways by which the dry needling works. When the needle is poked in the muscle which is tight, the needle will cause a mechanical loosening effect, thereby it allows the muscles to contract normally. Sometimes the results are very instantaneous. We show results on the table to the surprise of some patients, sometimes it takes one or two days time to get the complete cure, it depends on the chronicity of the condition as well. Secondly, the needles which are poked inside will dry in all the pain creating chemicals, so it is these chemicals which cause the chemical pain. These chemicals, once it gets released out of the vicinity, the pain reduction can be expected. Thirdly the needles can stimulate the brain to release the chemicals like endorphins and encephalins which is
something like the descending pain control. So, thereby, these needles are helping in the reduction of pain by these three mechanisms and there are other mechanisms which are also shown by the research. This is the effect of dry needling. Now, can we do on the muscles or onto the bone as well. We do on the muscles generally, sometimes we do on the ligament when the ligaments are not healing for a long period of time after the initial sprain. We do the needling for the ligament for a fresh healing. We do on the tendons like pendlay tendonitis or achilles tendonitis. We do treatments of tendons in that way. There are array of conditions that can be treated by dry needling ranging from headache to the heel pain. So there are some muscles which can cause headache , the muscles here can cause headache , the trapezius can cause headache like that . So we can easily treat with these needles. Cervicogenic headaches can very well be treated by dry needling, so as your frozen shoulder or cervical spondylosis, discogenic pain, or arthiritic pain, heel pain syndrome, any other sports injuries , all these conditions wherever muscles are involved , myofacial structures are involved, dry needling is a certain option. So,
this is a new filed, It is very famous in other countries. It is coming up in India. I certainly would like to, you know, assert you that it is a wonderful treatment that anyone can get .
