Making a Drum Beat with ONLY Logic Pro X Sounds

In this video, I'm making a drum beat using only stock sounds in Logic Pro X. A lot of producers feel like they can't make good productions unless they shell out a lot of money on sample libraries - but Logic Pro has a LOT of great sounds built right into the DAW. Don't believe that you can't make great music because you don't have "pro" tools.

I personally purchase my gear from Sweetwater and have for over 12 years -- these are affiliate links, meaning you can support my channel by using Sweetwater. The reason I trust Sweetwater is because they have the BEST customer support I have ever seen, two year warranty, free shipping, and they have they best reputation in the industry. You will never see me recommend buying pro audio gear from Amazon

I had no idea you could just look up “kick” in instruments until I was today years old. 😂

Thanks for another great video man!! Programming drums is far and away the hardest part for me, it always sounds so processed and unnatural so I end up leaving them out more often than not.

Quick question for you - is there any chance you could do a video sometime on how to get plugins up and running most efficiently in Logic, perhaps some of the ones you like most? Or, do you have a resource for learning that? I downloaded a bunch of free Native Instruments items (will probably buy the Select package sometime soon) but it's a little confusing to learn the difference between the various inputs and how to install them in Logic. I'm not very smart so it's a struggle lol :(

It took a while to get the LOGIC drums to sound good, but I think I finally got something pretty good. (Though the hi hat is still a little short of perfect). By the way, I "play" the drums on the keyboard. No loops. (I do this because I play drums and want it to sound like a drummer, not a patch). I also want the drums to sound like drums. What's going on in this video frankly sounds like any stock drum machine preset.

Nate, I like the way you vocalize your "drums" while monitoring the music. I do the same thing with instruments. If I feel a horn part, I'll vocally mimic a French horn along with the score to see what fits best. Do you ever use this technique? BTW - you are a gifted educator.

Dang that’s really good. I’ve definitely underestimated what you could do with Logic’s stock drum sounds. Also, which reverb plug-in are you using?

Thanks so much. This is great for all of us using logic. And excellent to be able to see you doing it the "keep it simple stupid" way on simple tracks... be interesting to contrast that with dropping samples into DMD that also creates separate tracks for each instrument, but keeps all the "midi notes" on the top level. Another video like this soon :-)

What is that sneaky snare drum accent full of reverb in the logic sample you blended in later?

this may be a lame question but I'm having the hardest time with this. so you are clicking different sounds on logic and then hitting a sampler I'm assuming. what device are you using to trigger the sounds and how do you go about doing this? thank you for your video. very helpful!!

Hey Nathan, thanks so much for your great tutorial. I'm a former house DJ, in my 60s and never had the patience to try to make my own music. Your tutorials have helped me so much. 2 questions: You alway list your hardware, but what Mac/memory are you using? and...Have you ever thought of changing the name or your tutorial series "BOOM!"?
Thanks again
