I love the new exploration mechanics. They give me the feeling that I am actually doing some astronomical exploring.

I took a data delivery mission and, for the first time ever, didn’t bother to check the distance. It was huge and, being a newbie, I just didn’t realise what I’d gotten myself into until I was well into the mission, having done over 20 jumps and realising I’d barely made a dent on the overall distance. However, the one thing I did know how to do was to scan systems, which I decided to do every 20 jumps or so.
Now, I thank my lucky stars, as when I rocked up in Deriso, 200, 000 LIGHT YEARS from the Bubble, near Sol, where I’d started, after FIVE DAYS of this, I turned in my mapping data: They gave me well over one HUNDRED MILLION CREDITS for my efforts!
Now, I think I’ll buy a Krait Phantom for the return journey, with a build based on your recommendations, for the return back to the bubble. With no deadline to suck the joy out of it, and a much bigger jump range, (not to mention actually having a buggy and the right scanning equipment for these other jobs) I will be able to fly at a leisurely pace and enjoy the journey this time.
I can’t decide whether to go armed or not? What do you think? The weapons sure take light years off your jumping range, but then again, if I’d had any idea how valuable my mapping cargo was on the first journey, I’d have been sweating and panicking the whole way out here! And I was ganked on the way into my target destination, so? . . .
I wouldn’t have been so relaxed about following the reticule to get away (which I did successfully) had I known I had a tenth of a billion to lose. Are weapons worth having against NPC’s? I know it will be pointless to do anything other than run away from real people. I have not done any of the Engineer or Guardian stuff yet, so I’ll be outmatched at every level. Especially since I have no combat experience and a quick scan will reveal my Harmless rating.
But, if I solo play when I’m coming into a station populated area, would weapons make any difference to a newbie, if I can’t fight off an interdiction? Any advice would be welcome, from any experienced player reading this.
Love the videos btw. Genuinely helpful in a way that others either aren’t, or they just digress, “um and ah, ” so much that I lose the will to live while watching them, or they’re making the assumption that you have Odyssey and all the Engineering and Guardian stuff, which I don’t. ✌️

I have not played Elite Dangerous in over 18 months, and a hell of a lot has changed. Mining and Exploration, two of my three mainstays alongside Trading, have been changed so dramatically.

Thanks for these tutorials, I'm looking through several as even old school laser mining has now changed thanks to these new scanning systems.

I've been playing Elite titles since Frontier, which I played via my Amiga and PC right up til the release of Dangerous, so since about 8 or 9 years old, I have over 1000 hours in Dangerous (pretty casual honestly, compared to most), and I STILL have a lot to learn or relearn.

I had this game for a while never played it and I was extremely frustrated but kept pushing. Great videos and websites the community really helped me. My first run on a weekend took 40hrs of my life force lol. And I blew up a lot in the sidewinder. Now I’m on the road to riches. Amazing game.

Best guide ever, I recently won basic ED game in some internet giveaway, than after I looked for proper tutorials from your channel I bought immediatly Horizons. I must say your guides helped me quite a lot. Thx for letting me enjoy this game even more because I was constantly frustrated by how bad ED codex tutorials were. Honestly they should give you next DLC for free because I bet I am not the only one who stayed withing the game thx to your tutorials :) Yesterday I managed to get permit for Sol and I must say it was awesome :)
