When we wrote it, it was my first time back in the studio in years. You see for a long time, I didn’t believe in my voice, and didn’t really feel worthy in a lot of ways at all. My friend Vaarin recognized herself in how I had been feeling. I said I didn’t talk to myself like a friend, and she said she felt like the skin of a fool...

Our inner critics often take up way too much space in us. For me personally, the worst part was the feeling of hopelessness. I couldn’t really see a way out of that dark, narrow headspace, where there was no room for self-love or a sense of strength. I felt scared. Like my body was failing to work properly. I ended up feeling stupid and ungrateful when I thought about bigger problems in the world, which were so much worse than my «issues». So I was even really angry at myself. But after I while I saw that undermining my feelings wouldn’t make anything better. I needed to face and accept the darkness to be free again.

Vaarin and I feel like this song has become a female force, because we put the love and admiration we have for each other, into it. Making this song and video helped us renew our strength! And we're getting better every day, at talking to ourselves like a friend. ❤Do you talk to yourself like a friend?
