Star Wars fans have gotten to see Thrawn's story playout in Legends continuity, where the Chiss Grand Admiral continued to lead the Imperial Remnant following the death of Emperor Palpatine. In the current Star Wars canon, fans were thrilled when Thrawn was introduced as an antagonist in Star Wars Rebels. Since then, fans have been clamoring for Thrawn's return, as Thrawn was last seen with Ezra Bridger heading into Hyperspace in the Rebels finale. While Star Wars fans still don't know where Thrawn & Ezra went following said finale, the possibility of their return is extremely exciting.

Thrawn, was a Chiss male officer of the Chiss Ascendancy & Grand Admiral in the Imperial Navy during the age of the Galactic Empire. An alien Imperial officer with striking blue skin, red eyes, Thrawn was well known as a brilliant & ruthless strategist. He believed that in order to achieve victory in war, one must know their enemy. As such, he dedicated himself to understanding the philosophy, art, & culture of his opponents, which included the Twi'leks of Ryloth and the warriors of Mandalore. When Governor Arihnda Pryce requested a strong commander capable of defeating rebels on Lothal, Thrawn accepted the challenge, intending to dismantle the rebellion one piece at a time. Before joining the Imperial Military, Thrawn served with the Defense Fleet of the Chiss Ascendancy. A native of the planet Rentor, located in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, Thrawn left his homeworld & traveled to known space where he encountered the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. Following the Galactic Republic's reorganization into the Galactic Empire, Thrawn offered his allegiance to Emperor Palpatine, having deemed an alliance with the new regime beneficial to his people. With the help of Cadet Eli Vanto, Thrawn assimilated into galactic society and ultimately graduated from the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant. After a series of promotions, he received the rank of Grand Admiral from the Emperor himself. At the height of his career, Thrawn served as commanding officer of the 7th Fleet, the flagship of which was the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera. Deployed to the Lothal sector a few years after the start of the Galactic Civil War, Thrawn sought to defeat the rebels led by Captain Hera Syndulla. Following the Battle of Atollon, Thrawn's fleet worked with the First Legion led by the Sith Lord Darth Vader, whom Thrawn once knew as the Jedi Skywalker, during a mission that resulted in the rescue of Force-sensitive Chiss girls. Resuming his task to eliminate Syndulla's cell, Thrawn & his forces were confronted by the rebels who intended to liberate Lothal once & for all. During the battle, the purrgil came to the aid of Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger & inflicted much damage to the Seventh Fleet. Thrawn himself was on the bridge of his command ship when the creatures surrounded the Chimaera & pulled it into hyperspace, taking both Thrawn & Bridger into the great unknown. In the years following Thrawn's disappearance, the Emperor & Vader were killed at the Battle of Endor, the Empire was decisively beaten at the Battle of Jakku, & the Alliance to Restore the Republic was reorganized into the New Republic. Thrawn's knowledge of the Unknown Regions proved useful to the Imperials that retreated from the known galaxy.

Actually, whem he was adopted to the mitth family, his name was changed to Mitth'raw'nuru, the 'odo' was later added to his name whem he helped the stybla family recover a part of the starflash device for the UAG. This is according to the new canon thrawn series, the book lesser evil.

My favourite fact of new canon is that despite his choosing to communicate to General Skywalker in Meese Calf, Thrawn was already functionally capable of speaking basic on a conversational level, but chose not to reveal it as it gave him a tactical advantage.

So to expand upon the last one. when thrawn was accepted into the Mitth family his name was changed to Mitth'raw'nuru. It wasn’t until later during a mission for the Stybla family which he used his tactics to win, that he was honored by the stybla by giving him the great respect of the name honorific “odo” which means “protector or defender” and is hardly ever given to chiss only in great action that dictates its earning. That’s how it became “Mitth'raw'nuruodo”
Chiss names are kinda weird, especially when their “core names” use the ending of the family name. So Thrawn was called “Vurawn” at one point before his rematching

I wasn’t particularly impressed with Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn. Thrawn had a chilling presence in other shows. This portrayal has all the presence of a Walmart greeter. It’s also kind of hard to take a Thrawn seriously that has a Dicky Doo.
